Applied Research Report
In the ARET program, we are tasked with completing an applied research report that relates to our education and the building industry. For my project, I chose the field of insulation materials. My study compared the performance and environmental impact of three insulation materials in an exterior wood framed wall assembly using thermal resistance and embodied carbon. To determine these values, a wall assembly suited for each material is produced and a process of calculations were made with measurements researched data. Information about each material’s composition and relevant qualities were also given. The insulations included fiberglass batts, dense packed cellulose fiber, and hempcrete. The conclusion of this project revealed an opportunity for further developments aimed at improving the carbon footprint of future building and materials.
Upon completion, we were given the opportunity to present our reports to the ARET faculty and students. The power point attached below is the piece I presented.
